In 1978, six years after the launch of the legendary, timeless Z1, Kawasaki released the Z1-R as the new Z. With its novel, linear appearance created by Kawasaki’s design genius, Mr. Tadahiro Kurishima, the Z1-R represented a 180-degree turn from the Z1’s flowing curves inherited from the Mach series making it famous overnight.
However, it was not only this revolutionary design but also the pedigree of the strongest, fastest, and highest-performing street motorcycle handed down from its predecessor the Z1, improved performance, and the consequently executed café-racer style that drew attention. A 4 into 1 collector exhaust system, double brake discs on the front, and 18-inch wheels gave the Z1-R sufficient engine output and agility to surpasses the first generation Z and become the benchmark for the evaluation of liter machines in all aspects.
The Z1-R was soon called “Kaku Z” (Edged Z) due to its unique design which would become the cornerstone for countless future Kawasaki models like the Z1000MK-II, Z1000R, ZRX, etc… At BITO R & D, we began the creation of our JB-POWER Z1-R Complete Machine, in not only focusing on increased engine output but also reducing weight, improving rigidity, and correcting the center of gravity due to a light FRP front fairing, JB-POWER φ38 front fork, fork bridge (triple trees), swing arm, and forged magnesium wheels – MAGTAN. A milled aluminium JB-POWER riding step (rear set), seat modification, and handlebar improve the three key points that are deeply related to riding position resulting in a motorcycle of outstanding handling and performance. Certainly one of the best Zs ever!
